Dynastic Period

The early Dynastic period was one of war between the city states. Six city states seemed to swich places as the ruling city: Kish, Uruk, Ur, Nippur, Lagash and Umma.

The two main centers of civilization were Kish in Akkad/North. In the South/Sumer it was Nippur. These two cities were the focus of the opposing city state for 2 reasons. 1 They were the religous centers and winning the battle for a religous center proved that God was on your side. 2 Success over the next largest city ligitimized your leadership or right to rule with the people.

According to records found war stopped suddenly in the late 3rd millenia, with the beginning of the Akkadian era.
